The Empress Dowager replied resolutely, "I deeply cherish Chang'an Prince, and this cannot be done." Left Minister Chu Long asked for an audience, and the Empress Dowager awaited him with anger. Upon entering, Chu Long walked slowly, arriving before the Empress Dowager and offering an apology, "The old minister has a foot ailment, making it difficult to walk quickly. I have not been able to see you for a long time, and I forgive myself, but I fear your health may also be affected, so I wish to see you." The Empress Dowager replied, "I rely on the sharpness of my ears and eyes, and a little rest will suffice."
